| Name | Date | Reason for defection |
|---|---|---|
| Gabrielle Nagle | 03 February 2019 | Non belief from a very early age (about 9) and now my utter disgust with the sick sex scandals that have been ongoing for centuries has spurred me on to defect from this sickening, corrupt, holier than thou establishment. |
| Carl-Eoin Nash | 10 August 2015 | As I'm gay I"m seen as unnatural and have been told by a school priest since 4th class to 6th year |
| Eileen Nash | 30 June 2021 | I will not stand by an institution that directly caused the deaths of thousands of First Nations children. |
| Jana Naughton | 25 May 2019 | Growing up in Ireland I was always made to feel a monster for ever questioning Catholic ethics. It was only by travelling to explore other cultures, researching other religions and reading a range of philosophies that you do not need the medium of religion to guide the life you live. Since this awakening, I have found paths and beliefs that resonate with me far more than my doubtful experiences of Catholic teachings in which I was forced to trust by a frightened and conservative Ireland. Now I can say I will not listen to a church that uses its power over its people in the worst possible ways and has done so for decades - I don't want my name to be any part of it. |
| Leo Naughton | 08 December 2019 | Never truly believed. I also strongly disagree with many ideals of the Catholic Church |

| Patrick Nelson | 16 December 2016 | Now an atheist |
| Samuel Nesbitt | 09 August 2015 | Atheist |
| Jody Neville | 09 August 2015 | When I was old enough to make a choice about my religion I chose not to have one. The choice was taken out of my hands when I was baptised as a baby, too young to know what my hands were, never mind to know what religion I was. |
| Kevin Neville | 07 March 2017 | The Catholic Church is pure evil. |

| Laurence Newman | 22 October 2022 | I don't believe in God and am repulsed by the acts of the Catholic Church in Ireland and elsewhere |
| Andrew Neylon | 28 May 2018 | I believe the Catholic Church to be a breeding ground of hate, greed and power. I have no belief in any of their teachings and do not want to be associated with this hypocritical organization any longer. |

| Ciara Ni Chualain | 09 March 2017 | No reason given |

| Jordan Ní Mhathúna | 14 December 2016 | I am ashamed of being a part of the Catholic church. I didn't ask to be a part of it. I should be legally allowed to leave. |
| Alva Nic Gabhann | 24 August 2018 | I can’t stand to be a part of an institution that protects corrupt men. I can’t be a part of a group that attempt to suppress my rights in the 21st century, I cannot be a part of a corrupt church, who has hurt so many people. |
| Sandra Nicholson | 27 February 2019 | I don’t believe that created stories and teaching based on fear is ok to get people to be good. I don’t like the organization that is the Catholic Church, it’s structures, it’s teachings. |
| Robert Nielsen | 16 August 2015 | No longer believe in God |

| Conor Nolan | 26 March 2018 | I am not Catholic |
| Jonathan Nolan | 16 January 2021 | I do not want to be associated with criminals. I do not prescribe to any controlling deity or any of its followers. I am a human with my own mind and self of being. |
| Joanna Nolan | 27 August 2018 | I would not want to be associated with the horror that is the Catholic Church. I wish to defect for the beatings my parents amd grandparents were given by the priests and the nuns. For the victims of abuse over decades. For the people who believe but are turned away because of their sexuality. For the women of the Magadelene Laundries, treated like they were nothing. For those poor nameless babies in Tuam. For every disgusting stain on Irish History caused by the Catholic Church. |
| Jonathan Nolan | 16 August 2015 | Not religious / spiritual |
| pat nolan | 07 October 2015 | No reason given |
| Sharon Nolan | 16 August 2015 | Have not been a practising Catholic for nearly 10 years, do not believe or want to be associated with the bigoted teachings of the Catholic Church |

| Deborah Nolan Gregory | 20 February 2019 | Atheism |
| Gillian Nooney | 16 May 2021 | Not a practising and I'm a sinner |
| Daniel Norman | 18 June 2019 | I no longer see enough evidence to believe in any god, let alone Yahweh of the Christian Bible. I fill out this form as an act of desperation, seeking to be free from harassment by my former congregation. Clear requests have fallen on deaf ears. I am using this resource to provide an official record of some sort without needing to participate in any other conversations or ceremonies. |
| Paul O | 29 August 2017 | Because I didn't chose this. |
| Chris O Brien | 23 June 2016 | All of them |

| michael o brien | 13 May 2017 | i no longer believe in the church. |
| Peter O brien | 09 August 2015 | Non believer |
| Roy O Brien | 22 September 2017 | I'm areligious, whilst I see a lot of comfort and solace for people especially in desperate times it's just not for me, plus I dislike when religious people pompously say I'll "regret it when blah, blah, blah" after I've been nothing but polite to them. Best of luck to the religious people whatever they like to fantasise about, it's just not for me. |
| Sinead O brien | 23 November 2019 | I want no pay off a church that systematically and regularly tries to cover up abuse. The Catholic Church treatment of women is less than we deserve. As an organisation they need to be held to account for their crimes against humanity. Their greed and unwillingness to change. Even the fact that they turn a blind eye to 'defectors' requests to be discounted. The Catholic Church needs to grow up, move with the times and accept they are no longer the power house they once were. I will not be considered a part of this organisation. |
| Shannon-Louise O Carroll | 20 November 2023 | No belief in the religion |
| Cian O Ciobhain | 10 August 2015 | I hope the Catholic Church respect my decision that as a mature adult I would never have signed up to this club in the first place. I was 3 months old, I had no decision in the matter. Ever since my teen years, I've wanted to be free of the shackles of dour Catholic dogma. |
| Niall O Connell | 13 July 2017 | No reason given |
| Renee O Connell | 12 August 2019 | Not a practicing catholic for many years and I’m appalled by the Catholic Church past history and still to date have not done enough to make up for the hurt they have caused |
| Aidan O Connor | 21 August 2018 | I didn't consent to being baptised, wasn't given choices about my beliefs, was forced through the various ceremonies and do not agree with the teachings of the catholic church. Ireland would be a happier, safer place without the catholic church. Count me out! |
| Noelle O Connor | 25 August 2018 | Did not choose to be part of this evil cult, I was born into it. |
| Tadhg O Connor | 24 October 2017 | I don't believe in God/Gods |
| Sinead O Connor | 17 March 2021 | Non believer |

| Georgina O`Mahony | 30 May 2018 | Atheist for 25 years. Never believed but I was in a catholic school, run by nuns so there was no other choice. I have never considered myself catholic and do not want to be affiliated with the catholic church in any way. The sexual abuse, the mistreatment of communities and members, the blatant abuse of power, responsibility for the death of so many children, the vicious and vile verbal attacks against the same sex marriage referendum and now the same filthy, repugnant and truly horrifying things that they are saying now that the abortion referendum has passed. I am truly disgusted by all actions that the catholic church have taken in the past and all the actions they are currently taking. Their behaviour is beyond abhorrent. |
| Fergal O' Gara | 06 March 2017 | Eh one, of many, reason would be my absolute disgust at consistent abhorrent abuse of women and children by the catholic church. Not my church, not my religion, not in my name! |
| Aisling O' Keeffe | 10 August 2015 | I never chose to join the Catholic faith and I don't believe in any aspect of it. |

| Helen O'Beirne | 04 December 2018 | Atheism |
| Michael O'Boyle | 11 December 2018 | Disapprobation of Catholic institutions actions and crimes |
| Darren O'Brien | 27 January 2016 | I'm tired of hearing about unbaptised children having difficulty getting admitted to schools. I don't want my kids to be baptised, and I think the more people that defect and show their opposition to the church, the harder it will be for them to justify their hold on our schools |
| Emer O'Brien | 21 October 2017 | Atheist |
| Emma O'Brien | 11 April 2018 | I was never given a choice in this. As my parents have become increasingly involved in the church over the last few years (my father is now a deacon), I have become increasingly aware of the hypocrisy and bigotry of the church; it goes far beyond the usual objections. It infuritates me that supporting my parents means an occasional trip to mass, it infuriates that I'm counted as a member of such an immoral organisation, and it infuriates me that I have to watch my younger sister be indoctrinated. The Church leeching onto people who want to leave to boost their numbers is one more example of how they're not much better than any other cult. The power the church still has in Ireland is truly frightening, and it sickens me that my parents refuse to examine the destructive aspects of the belief system they prop up, when in every other way they are the best people I know. Mostly, I'm ashamed of myself for not putting my real name to this, the only excuse I have is the hurt it would cause my parents to read it, and the embarrassment it would cause them if someone they knew did. I'm sick of being complicit in propagating the church's bullshit, and I don't know how to balance that with my love for my family. I'm tired. |
| Gary O'Brien | 05 March 2017 | I was never a Catholic by choice, it was forced upon me by my parents. I was never a Catholic and after all the disgusting things the Catholic Church has done I don't know how anyone else is either. |
| Karyn O'Brien | 07 April 2019 | I don't believe any of the stories the church teaches. I don't believe the world was made in 7 days. I don't believe in Adam and Eve, Moses parting the sea, Noah's ark or any other stories. I don't believe women are second class citizens. I don't agree with the horrific treatment of women and children that happened in the Magdelene laundries. I don't believe Paedophiles should be continuously protected. I definietly do not think the church who have continously allowed these things to happen and have done nothing to address it, have any right to talk to people about morality. I am a good, kind, loving, empathetic person. I teach my son to be the same. |
| Kate O'Brien | 04 October 2016 | MANY! |
| Kelly O'Brien | 20 February 2019 | I do not recognise the catholic beliefs in any shape or form. |
| Pearse O'Brien | 16 August 2015 | Religion is a tool of fear and control used to turn people against each other for profit. Its a business. With a CEO, managers and staff. If there was a man named Jesus and he was alive today, he would see little about the catholic church that resembled his ideals. He would cast them out as we should. |

| Niamh O'Byrne | 28 August 2018 | I am not a second class citizen. I am proud to be female, not ashamed. I don't believe Catholic teachings and am appauled at the Catholic Church's record on human rights. All human beings are intrinsically equally valuable. I will not carry your shame anymore. |

| Kevin O'Dononghue | 28 November 2016 | Logic, reason and my view that the catholic church behaved in a criminal manner is perptrating and covering up child sex abuse. I will not be married or raise my children in this criminal cult |

| Aidan O'Flanagan | 09 August 2015 | Atheist status |
| Dónal O'Flynn | 10 August 2015 | From the time I was old enough to understand it I have never believed in any aspect of the Catholic faith. I would rather not have been baptised, made first confession, communion and confirmation. Confession I take particular issue with. What "sins" does a nine year old have to confess? If I get married I will have a humanist ceremony and when I die I will have left instructions for a humanist funeral followed by cremation. Apart from musical performances, for which churches are often a great venue, I only darken their doors for weddings and funerals. These are important occasions and if the people involved wish them to take place in a religious setting I am more than happy to attend out of respect for my friends and loved ones. The discontinuation of the "Declaration of Defection" process is an affront to the right of freedom of religion and I deplore those who made the decision. |
| Brian O'Gorman | 16 August 2015 | I'm an atheist |
| Stacy O'Gorman | 29 May 2018 | It wasn't my choice to become a Catholic. It shouldn't be allowed to enter someone into something as an infant and then not let them have any option to leave it as an adult. I've wanted to leave the church for years. |
| Jennifer O'Grady | 12 July 2018 | Catholicism is a load of fairy nonsense that I was entered into as an infant with no say. |
| Val O'Grady | 27 August 2015 | The Catholic church is the biggest curse the world has known |

| David O'Leary | 21 August 2018 | I no longer have any personal connection or belief in anything relating to the Catholic Church or any such organised religious body. | Cian O'Mahony | 26 November 2017 | I have been atheist for almost 20 years now. It isn't even about not believing in a god anymore. Its more like why even bother with it. If I had grown up and not known about any religion and then when I was 16 someone came along and read me the bible or the Koran there is no way you would even entertain that kind of nonsense. Anyways, I don't want to be associated with Catholicism anymore and would really like to have my name removed from their registry. |

| Eimear O'Reilly | 04 June 2017 | I cannot continue to be a member of an organisation which treats women as second class, which preaches 'pro-life' and then allows thousands of children to die in their care, which covers up years of abuse. My respect to those who hold their faith dearly, I support you. But I cannot support the institution of the Catholic Church any longer. |
| Janine O'Reilly | 29 May 2018 | I don't want to belong or be associated to a religion that dictates how we live our lives and our moral beliefs, when they think its acceptable for their leaders to abuse the vulnerable . I am a Christian and have my own good beliefs and would not act to harm another |

| Thomas O'Toole | 16 January 2021 | I do not, nor have I ever, followed the teachings and scriptures of the Catholic Church as a religion or an institution. I also practice the occult. I do not wish to be considered a member of the Catholic Church as it was never my choice to be a part of it, a decision made before I could even speak. I want no link with the Catholic Church whatsoever, and find it appalling that I can't leave something I never wanted, and still don't, want to be a part of. I believe the Catholic Church is hateful, and has caused countless millions of deaths, ruined countless lives. I believe the Catholic Church is hypocritical, I don't believe in Jesus, I hate the hypocritical institute it is. I wanted to leave 32 years ago! |

| Megan Pál | 16 April 2019 | My beliefs do not coincide with beliefs of the Catholic faith. I also didn't choose to be Catholic but was baptised as a child as many children in Ireland are. If you want to be part of a religious faith then you should choose yourself at 18 years old and only then participate in religious events. |

| Carlos Parra | 15 January 2022 | I want to be a christian |
| Margaret Paterson | 18 May 2017 | Truama caused by Catholicism, does not believe anymore, and converting to another religion |
| Christina Patterson | 15 August 2018 | My mother had me baptised into this backwards institution when I was only 5 days old. I didn't have any say in the matter and had I, I wouldn't have become a member at all. I have never believed in God and I don't practice religion. That, up until some years ago, was enough for me to want to take my name off the CC records. However, after all of the horrific findings regarding the child sex abuse scandals, the unearthing of human remains in Tuam, the Magdalene laundries, the selling of babies and so much more – I want out. I do not want to have any association with a cult of paedophiles and murderers. The Catholic Church is a disgrace, those that run it are criminals walking around under the veil of "the untouchable men of God” hurting innocent boys and girls, knowing their buddies will always be there to cover their tracks. In any other walk of life, these crimes would have the perpetrators locked up with the key thrown away. Why should a man with a collar or a pointy hat be treated any differently? |

Women treated as second class; vunerable children abused. A long, long litany of hurt and pain caused by the very ones who held themselves up as pinnacles of virtue and decency. |

| Sophie Prendergast | 14 April 2016 | Religion has no meaning to me |
| Maria Price | 19 March 2017 | Well, there's no such thing as god. |
