Patrick D’Alton09 February 2025I don’t believe in God nor the scriptures or what they profess, putting this as my formal defection from the Catholic church.
Conan Dalton24 September 2018I always wanted to be a defective. Like Sherlock Holmes. Anyway, not a believer, haven't been for ages
Larry Dalton19 March 2017When I was 7, a bishop explained what a mystery was. I knew then that it was all lies.
Sheila Daly26 April 2025I do not believe in any god and I do not support the indoctrinatation and abuse of children into any paedophilic religious cult. All religion is evil, especially so the Catholic one
Caoimhe Daly21 June 2018I didn't ask to be part of the Church, my parents picked my religion. And after learning about all of the horrible things that they have done and still do and stand for made me not believe in the faith and God himself anymore. I have felt this way for many years, but growing up in Ireland, being a Catholic is a part of being Irish. Well no more. Today I take a stand for my beliefs and morals and wash my mind, soul and body of this religion and its baggage that comes with being a Catholic. I am free.
Ciarán Daly07 May 2021Non - believer. Never consented in the first place
Fiona Daly29 August 2018Standing up for my right to choose what I do or don't believe, my choice and also for all the wrong that the church have done to families horrific crimes to say the least why would anyone want to a part of this organisation? I hear the victims stories.. I can't just forget these horrid abuse stories it's time to stop listening to the priests and open our eyes wide. My faith is so strong but my faith has nothing to do with religion I am a good person and I now feel liberated to be free from this cult
Geraldine Daly15 November 2015Atheist

Ronan Daly21 June 2018Atheism and dissatisfaction with the policies, teachings, politics, and historical corruption of the Catholic church.
Sheila Daly16 August 2015I was given no choice but forced to join this evil cult. I have never believed, even when they forced me to make my communion. I knew it wasn't right then, even without the knowledge I have now. I could write a book about how evil the church is but everyone already knows this. I wish I and everyone have the opportunity someday to deflect in totality from the church.

nikita davis26 October 2016I don't believe in god
Terry Davis02 October 2015Not religous
Kelly Davis16 August 2015I do not believe in any God or Gods. I believe the Catholic church has committed terrible crimes particularly against women and children in this country. As a woman I do not want to be part of an organisation that regards me as second class because of my gender. I am not merely a vessel that can be sacrificed for more little Catholic foot soldiers. I believe that the church is centred on money, power and control and I resent the fact that they count me among their members when I absolutely am not. I believe in the total separation of church and state, secular democracy and no church influence, from any church, on state legislation or publicly funded hospitals and schools. I am NOT a Catholic and I have no wish to be counted as one. The fact that the Catholic church does not allow anyone to officially leave is breathtaking arrogance on their part.
Quinn de Barra24 October 2017I never wanted to be a member of the child molester club. I despise the Catholic church, I am not a Catholic, I am not a Christian, I was baptised without my consent and forced into Catholic rituals I did not understand as a child. Jocelyn Doyle09 May 2017Firm, unwavering atheism and an utter contempt for this corrupt cult.
Jon Doyle27 August 2018Having read the bible and studied the history, you come to realize that all religions are just a tool to control the masses. The word of god has changed a lot over the centuries to suit whatever maniacs are in power at the time. If anyone did even the smallest amount off research about the history of the catholic church, you'd see this is not an organisation set up for the good of mankind. Most of the popes were some of the most evil bastards of all time.
Neil Doyle28 August 2018The Catholic church is the single biggest cult in the world, it was started by men and has caused untold horrors in my Country and all other Countries it has a hold in.

Edward Duigenan11 March 2017Catholicism is irrational
Olwyn Duignam09 March 2017I don't believe God is real. The Catholic Church's treatment of women and children to this day is deplorable. From covering up the sexual abuse of children to opposing the decriminalisation of homosexuality, it's laughable that people still support the Catholic Church in Ireland. The Church resisted so many positive changes in Ireland from divorce, gay marriage, contraception, women in the civil service and abortion. The list goes on. Ireland would be a much better place without the presence of the Catholic Church.
Joan Dumecz23 May 2016Non catholic believer
thomas duncan08 October 2015Non god believer
Emily Dunlea02 February 2019It is inequitable to impose any kind of religious belief onto children. To put it bluntly, religions are sects that promote interstices in society and the indoctrination of others. As soon as anybody can perform a public act in the name of a religion, or attend a religious institution, "beliefs" have been pushed well beyond their bounds. Religion is the weapon that has been wielded to repress people on the grounds of gender, sexuality, class and ethnicity. It has hindered life-enchancing scientific advancement, racial integration, and has been used as a reason to restrict publication of, and access to, literature. As a race, we should by this point be able to recognise that people do not derive morals from holy books- people look at these texts subjectively and decide what is a parable, what is so cruel that it's surely only a warning and what should and should not be taken literally; this judgement indicates an innate moral reasoning that has nothing to do with religion. Religious institutions, especially those with self-administration and influence, are a dangerous presence; need the Magdalene laundries be mentioned? These organisations belong to the barbarous Medieval times of "morality plays". No state should have anything even approaching a right to arbitrarily classify it's citizens as belonging to a particular religion. My world views are incompatible with religion; even the concept galls me. Please do not edit this; it's perfectly respectful. I'm gratefully using this service to defect insofar as is currently possible in this state.
Fiona Dunne27 August 2018There is no god. I hate the church and the evil they stand for.
Gary Dunne05 March 2017Not Catholic.
Jonathan Dunne07 July 2017Changing Canon Law in Ireland to make it imposible for people to leave the Catholic Church says A LOT about the institution. In return, I will not baptise my child. When she's of sound mind (unlike me as a baby when I was baptised) she can make her own decision. I'm not taking that right away from her. I urge others to do the same. What goes around comes around. Religion comes from within; it's not a subscription.
Niamh Dunne10 October 2015I no longer practise nor believe in the teachings of the Catholic, and resent the fact that I cannot make the choice to leave. Power and control corrupts absolutely.
Nicholas Seb Dunne21 May 2023I've been an atheist since my teens but cutting ties with the catholic church, even if only symbolically, may help vent some of the anger I feel towards an institution which has caused so much misery, which drowned generations in guilt. In general I have grown more tolerant as I have aged but my feeling of anger towards the catholic church has only grown.

Niamh Ennis08 May 2018I think it is a disgrace that there is no official system to leave the church, should anyone wish to do so. I do not come from a religious family and have never been made go to church or say prayers. I was signed up to this religion for one purpose only: in order to get a place local primary school. I do not believe in god, and even if I did, I would still wish to leave the Catholic Church. Cían Farrelly28 April 2016I was baptised and brought up unwillingly before I was able to decide otherwise for myself. I was the brainwashed religious nonsense in primary and secondary schools, but at the age of 12, I decided I had enough. I don't believe in any religions or religious beliefs. I feel it lawfully wrong and injust that children are unwillingly baptised and entered into a church organisation they know nothing of. Furthermore, the church in Ireland has a firm grasp on education, government and health services in the country which has lead to some serious issues and avoidable controversies over the last few years. I want out, and will not give up until I receive what is lawfully my decision, to leave the Catholic Church and live my life as a fully fleged Atheist, free of any religious beliefs.

Aidan Fitzgerald02 June 2018Two many reasons to list! Tried defecting officially years ago but it was not accepted by the church. I don't want to be a part of an institution that believes in magical thinking and forces its draconian opinions and ideas on others, let alone an organisation that has been, and continues to, cover up horrific crimes that have been carried out by the fanatical and degenerate members of society that the church seems to produce.

Rob Flanagan26 February 2019I’m against indoctrination
Thomas Flanagan28 May 2018I disagree entirely with how the Roman Catholic Church fills our children with fear, from baptism tells them they are not good enough and will constantly throughout our lives teach us to berate ourselves and others. Fiona-Iris Flinn05 September 2024Catholicism was imposed on us in school and it tainted our education. The religious order robbed us of a broad and decent education, instilling falsehoods, fear, guilt, causing untold damage and low self esteem. I am so grateful that the present generation do not have to suffer that . Catholicism is Patriarchal. The hypocrisy and history of abuse in their religious institutions is unforgivable . I cannot remain a member even as a non practicing one. monotheism replaced our beliefs that were founded in the natural world . Respecting nature and every living being that resides there and looking to our ancestors for help in times of need is what makes sense .
Maria Flood19 March 2017I resent it. I resent the lack of choice. I resent the sexism. I resent the lies: now and then. I resent the hidden, the overt, the manipulative, horrific treatment of women. I resent the sacrifices my mother made and the justifications she continues to make because her identity cannot be separated from a church who lied to her. I resent the lack of sex education. I resent the sexual abuse. I resent the limitations it put on my father, on his feelings, on his opportunities. I resent the person who my mother thought she had to be. I resent the questions my nieces have to ask about who this God could be when they watch the news and dead babies have been uncovered. I resent the fact that I am terrified to give birth to a child in my own country because if something goes wrong, I am not protected. I resent the fact that thousands of girls have had to travel alone or give birth alone or live alone.

Eithne Flynn10 March 2018I did not consent to my baptism or confirmation. Not allowing me to opt out is despicable. Gery Flynn22 November 2024Ireland’s Roman Catholic Church has been proven to be a corrupt institution wilfully blind to the damage it inflicted on generations of children and adults here. I want no part of this evil sect, please count me out.

Gearòid Fogarty11 August 2015I am atheist.
Siobhan Ellen Fogarty28 January 2018I asked questions about celibacy. Admittedly my tone was a tad confrontational when I asked, did it make the priest an approacable person for spiritual counsel? Or did it distance him from his community? I found a week later this conversation was repeated to my own parish priest who read me off the alter at my mothers Memorial mass. Narcsissitic / ego manic. I only asked a question and tried to engage in a conversation which I had thought out in the open in todays society. Admittedly celibacy is a personnel choice and maybe the priest decision was coming under scutinay in the conversation, but no compassion the next week from the alter. Of all the times to make a repostition. I'm done with Catholic Church. I know I was brought to Baptism out of love from my parents. I have been shown no love or compassion from the church itself.

I believe it is an abuse of my name and national status, and a gross infringement on my human human rights that I cannot officially leave an organization that I was indoctrinated into. That my parents were indoctrinated into and who were pressured to indoctrinate me into. I officially do not give the Church my permission to use my name and citizenship as a percentage or statistic to secure or justify any financial support, tax cuts or funding from the Irish Government.

Karen Garvin05 March 2017So many many atrocities have been committed by Catholic Church. Affecting the most vulnerable, the defenceless, the alone. I will not stand passively by while you sanitise this with an "enquiry". I am not part of the church that says you continue to not have any rights. I am not on the fence. Enough.
Elaine Gaughran09 March 2018I turned from the church at 12 years old when I first started listening and understanding in church. I quickly realised I agreed with very little of what was said. So I stopped going and supporting what I realised was sexist tripe. At some point over the next few years without giving it much thought I realised I did not buy into this God heaven and hell stuff. I have been resolute since then, over 20 years.

Ruth-Helen Griffin29 March 2020I no longer give consent to the Catholic Church to include me - Ruth Helen Griffin- in any capacity in their institution. I was baptised as an infant and was therefore unable to give my fully informed consent. As a sovereign adult now, I consciously choose to wholly retract and revoke any implied consent and inclusion in any and every capacity to being part of the Catholic Church. This is to include their spiritual, religious, commercial, financial, philosophical or legal entities or activities. I wholly remove all my personal aspects and information from their influence and control. I hereby announce every part of my spirituality and being to be wholly free from the Catholic Church's influence. I announce my full sovereignty. I want to note my dissatisfaction with the Catholic Church and their inability to give members an option to permanently remove themselves from their records. I hereby give notice that I do not consent to any of my personal details to be shared by the Catholic Church or any affiliated parties. I want it noted that the recorded depraved abuse of innocents, children and the continued subjugation of women that has been/is perpetuated by the Catholic Church is a vile distortion of natural law and I will not be associated with such repulsive acts, in any capacity. Stephen Guinane09 March 2017Common sense that science is correct regarding our creation, bigotry is a strong theme in the church & I do not agree anyone should be persecuted against, hypocrisy of the church & their earnings vs unrealised vows of poverty, Tuam babies & the Magdalene laundries, child abuse scandals, the church seems to have weight in governmental proceedings & this needs to change. Generally growing up in Ireland is enough to turn anyone away from the church and their misteachings.
