Rowan Bines16 May 2022The hurt and pain inflicted onto women of my own family , the pain and hurt felt by so many Irish people. The heartless crimes inflicted on innocent people all in the name of God. The use and exploitation of God to use people and manipulate their lives into a storm of guilt, shame and hurt. My grandmother was made now over an alter and beg for forgiveness for having sex after birthing her seven children. My great aunt was put in a laundry. The Catholic Church does nothing but inflict evil, they taint the name of God. I believe in God, I love my God but the Catholic Church does not enforce the true message of spirituality, hope and love that God wishes us too. It is a corrupt, outdated, conservative, disgusting institution that should be separated from the state of Ireland. The women of Ireland will NEVER forget the pain the Catholic Church has inflicted unto us. EVER

Sonia-Maria Brooks25 April 2016I do not believe any of the fairy tales and nonsense that I was told to follow!
Ciara Brophy10 March 2017I was brainwashed by priests and teachers into believing the catholic church was the only way, until I reached the age of 12. It was then I started to learn about the reformation and realised that nothing had changed. The Greed and hypocrisy against which Martin Luther had protested was still rife in the RCC. I also began to think for myself and realised that the very notion of a prescribed set of beliefs was just ludicrous nonsense, designed to control the masses. I would rather navigate life using my own moral compass, which, in my opinion, is far superior to the morals displayed by the RCC. Around 1991, I stopped attending mass and considered myself to be no longer affiliated with any religious organisation. I never expected the sickening revelations that were to follow, which would obviously serve to reinforce my decision to turn away from the barbaric, hypocritical, greedy organisation that is the RCC.

Even as a small child, I never believed the lies and was shaken by the bullying and scare tactics used by the parish priest, brainwashed teachers, and fearful classmates. The Catholic Church has destroyed countless lives. It is fundamentally patriarchal, anti-woman, and anti-equality in all respects. It is an institution based on fear and social control. People close to me have suffered greatly at its hands. It is time to stop the poisoning of young hearts and minds and loosen their grip of fear to create an open, fair and just society. Count me out from your numbers, pope - you have no claim to my mind, my heart, or my moral life.

Patrick Coombes26 March 2016Do i really need to spell it out? mumo jumbo.
Stacey Coonan09 April 2017The choice of my religion was not that of my own. It was that of my parents. I grew up in and have respect for those in my local catholic church however it does not reflect my true beliefs. After much research and reading of the bible I believe it to be a judgemental, harsh and contradictory religion and I chose not to be a part of it myself. I believe religion should be an adults choice not chosen by their parents at birth.

David Costigan25 April 2016In the hope that more will follow and remove the power of the redundant church over the people of this world
Orla Cotter28 January 2017For tax reasons in Germany
Charlie Cotter10 March 2018Atheist since 7 years old but continued with communion and confirmation due to societal norms.
Eimear Cotter14 August 2019I did not choose to be part of the catholic church and I choose to decide for myself what my beliefs are. I dont believe in organised religion. I wish not to be part of any organised religion especially that of the catholic church.
Fearghal Cotter06 March 2017I have never really believed since I was young, I also detest the fact that its not choice - you are baptized and signed up to an organisation as its the "norm" and social stigma dictated it. While I have no issues with any priests or Catholics (generally) I have been in contact with (in fact, I would say some are lovely people who only mean the best), I think the fact that you are not "allowed" to defect is downright absurd and shows the backward thinking that is unfortunately still the views of the draconian minded Catholic organisation. I will be filling out the form for defection, they can view me in whatever light they want - I am considering this to be me formally defecting and renouncing the faith that was thrust upon me before I could even recognise the face that brought me into this world. In my eyes, religion is and should be a choice. I am 30 years old, and stopped believing when I was 12. I would have defected years ago only for the ramifications of marriage, childrens education and general social perception to name a few reasons. The list could go on, but the main fact of the matter is I just don't buy into it and never have.
Orla Cotter14 May 2018Get me out! Cannot abide being in any way associated with this institution.

Michael Craughwell19 March 2024There are almost too many reasons for my defecting to mention, but primarily the damage they did to me as a young gay person by controlling the education system and propagating and providing false legitimacy to homophobia.
Aimee Crawford24 August 2020I didn't have a choice in my religion and no longer want to identify with the Church

Liam Croke29 April 2022Don't believe that any god could be as evil as to have their representatives on earth as total evil bastards
Michael Croke22 January 2022I do not want to be counted as a member
Shannon Cronin15 January 2021Non believer in the religion and against the injustices caused by the religion in Ireland
Fergal Cronin10 August 2015Religion offers nothing of substance to society as a whole. Just pain and suffering, hypocrisy and ignorance. Immoral and evil. Holding back human progress to explore this amazing planet and universe: basing their rules on a bronze age book of contradictions. Constantly subverting human rights by claiming privilege. The obsession with suppression, especially of women. Guilting people from finding personal happiness. How liberating to be free to celebrate life without the yoke of religion and gods.
Richard Cronin07 April 2016Disagree with its belief in the charism of infallibility, synergistic salvation and its sacramental system.
Shannon Cronin11 July 2024Non believer, against the cruel abuse at the hands of the church
David Crosby25 August 2018I David Crosby reject the teachings andof beliefs of Catholicism, the Pope and Christianity in general. I believe in science, reason, skepticism and humanism not primitive superstitious belief symptoms that lack logic, truth and empirical evidence. I reject all organised religions as they are nothing more then cults by definition and in my own opinion.
Rachel Crossan22 August 2016Atheist

Adrian Cubbin11 March 2018I have had no belief in gods or supernatural powers for over 30 years. Therefore, I do not wish to be counted as a Catholic for the justification of doctrines, ideas, beliefs and misguided/repugnant/immoral acts of the Catholic Church. I want to make it clear that none of what they teach or do is done in my name..
Anne Cuddihy09 July 2018I absolutely abhor the stranglehold the catholic church still has on this country. It's stance on many things is totally contradictory to my own feelings on them and the historic abuse is disgusting. I believe that anyone who calls themselves catholic is in their own way condoning the behaviour of the church. You can't say "ah but they're not all the same" and put your hands over your ears to pretend that none of this has happened. It's time to take a stand. My children are not baptised. I want nothing to do with the church.
noreen Culhane26 April 2017I do not believe rc teachings
Amanda Cullen29 March 2016I do not choose Catholicism.
Ian Cullen03 December 2021I hold no faith of the roman catholic church and want to be removed from their congregation.
Leah Cullen17 April 2016Not a believer. Don't want to be associated with the villainous treacherous that the Catholic Church has committed over the years.
Sarah Cullen14 June 2018I cannot put my name to an organisation that systematically raped children and sold babies. The church stole the lives, innocence, and identities of thousands of Irish people. Enough is enough. Let me leave.
kenneth cummins31 May 2019I am now becoming one of Jehovah's Witness an no longer wish to be associated with the catholic church at any level
Matthew Cummins28 August 2015It's insulting that the church doesn't allow defections. In my opinion religion can only serve to do harm through it's peddling of nonsense. It's abhorrent that they peddled it to me in my formative years and now peddle it to my children. I'm relieved that reason allowed me to see the light 😉
ciara cunnane16 January 2019I don't believe in the Catholic religion
Brian Cunningham15 August 2015I don't believe in an interventionist God, or any type of God for that matter. I also wish in no way to be associated with the atrocities committed on children by the clergy and facilitated by church authorities.
Edell Cunningham16 August 2015I'm an atheist
Gerard Curley26 January 2016No longer want to be associated with such an evil, corrupt institution that puts wealth power and control over Christ's simple teachings in the Bible
Wayne Curley28 December 2016I believe in the old ways not this religion that was forced upon me as a child. I have not believed in the church since i was a child not even sure if i ever believed in it. They call themselves religious holy men, men of god and the have caused the deaths of millions since the church was created, one pope i read about in history supplied guns to two different religions hoping they would kill each other off, people burnt at the stake because of religous figures including Joan of Arc who said she could hear god and the so called religion burnt her along with countless others and they have protected child molesters for years. figures in the church whispered in the ears of monarchs imploring them to war on other countrys for their beliefs. there are many countless reasons i wish to defect.
